Charlotte Nebres is a child performer who rose to stardom in 2019 while dancing the lead role of Marie in the New York City Ballet's classic, the Nutcracker.

 Two  years  later  she  had  the  honor  of  becoming  a  children’s  book  author  at  the  age  of  13.  Her  book, Charlotte & The Nutcracker (Penguin Random House, 2021) shares an inside look into that experience & her life on and off stage. 

Charlotte is currently  a  high school Freshman & pre-professional ballerina who has trained at the prestigious School of American Ballet & Dance  Theater of Harlem School.

In it's 75 year history, the New York City Ballet didn't cast a Black female in a principal lead role before Charlotte Nebres was chosen for the role of Marie in George Balanchine's celebrated production of The Nutcracker. 

At just 11 years old she played the beloved role in the holiday classic and ushered in a new era of representation and inclusion to the stage at Lincoln Center. She was celebrated by trailblazers and mentors Aesha Ash and Misty Copeland along with many other beloved luminaries from stage and film. 

Charlotte & The Nutcracker shares an inside look at  Charlotte’s life on and off stage. Published in 2021 by Penguin Random House.

Charlotte and the Nutcracker is a reimagined and modern take on the holiday favorite. This picture book weaves together the classic Christmas tale of The Nutcracker and the true-life story of 12-year-old ballerina Charlotte Nebres, the first Black girl to play Marie in the New York City Ballet’s production.
